About the Sound Local Test
The Sound Local Test checks the words you choose, not your accent. Type or say one Spanish phrase and it scores how natural that wording would sound to people in each region, from 0 to 100.
The eleven regions
- Puerto Rico
- Mexico
- Dominican Republic
- Colombia
- Argentina
- Cuba
- Venezuela
- Peru
- Costa Rica
- General Latin American Spanish
- Spain
How it works
- Type a Spanish phrase of up to 140 characters, pick an example, or tap “Say it instead” and speak it.
- Tap “Score my Spanish”. Each region gets a score from 0 to 100 for how natural your wording is there.
- See where your phrase lands and which word gave you away, then share your result or try another phrase.
Questions
- Does it test my accent?
- No. It scores the words and phrasing you use, not your pronunciation. If you say the phrase, it is turned into text first and the text is scored.
- How is the score worked out?
- An AI model rates how natural your phrase would sound to people in each region, from 0 to 100. It is a guide to regional wording and slang, not a certified language test.
- Is it free?
- Yes, the test and the bonus “Which region says this?” quiz are free. To keep it that way, there is a daily limit on how many phrases one visitor can score.
- Do I need an account?
- No. You can take the test without signing up.
